For residents who prefer sand to redwoods, Seacliff State Beach is a popular spot for swimming sunbathing and boating. The beach also features a pier for fishing, a picnic shelter and the Palo Alto, which was one of three concrete ships built to be used during World War I. The tanker was never used but it makes its permanent home at the end of the beach’s pier, some of which has already sunk to the bottom of the bay.
